Slight modification

In 8. best to save with a different name

The site does a sort of merge otherwise

I admire your perseverance, mouse! This seems a unfortunately complex way of achieving what should be very simple and common requirement - to record a shopping list with quantities and to re-use that list.  I trust that mysupermarket will see the sense of making this possible in a more straight forward manner.  We do not generally buy one of everything, which seems to be the current default assumption.  This is particularly important for the large family,  small organisation or small business with regular order needs.  Sorting this out could be of great assistance and sharpen competition amongst the suppliers.

After trying to do this for many months I finally found that, although the quantities that appear in shopping lists in the web app are basket quantities, in fact MySupermarket also holds a hidden list quantity against each web shopping list item. You can access, use and maintain these quantities on the web app and in the mobile app if you know how.

On the web site:

1. Navigate to My Favs ~ My Lists. Create an empty list, taking care not to use an existing name as duplicates can be created and may confuse the software. Let's call the list 'Test'. You cannot add quantities of items to the list directly, if you use 'add to basket' to specify quantities, you are just adding the quantities to the basket not the list.

2. Now go back to shopping and create a shopping basket containing all the items in the quantity you want on the 'Test' list

3. Choose the blue 'save as list' link at the bottom of the basket and choose to save to list 'Test'

4. Now navigate to My Favs ~ My lists. And see you have a list with quantities. But NB the quantities it is displaying are those in your basket which, at this point happen, to be identical to the hidden list quantities. The 'list quantities' are not displayed.

5. To use this list, you would normally start with an empty basket. So empty the basket you just created, then navigate to My Favs ~ My Lists ~ Test. The quantities of items on the test list now seems to be zero, but they are not. At this point you must add the items to the list by choosing 'Add all items' in blue at the bottom of the test list. If you try to add the items by clicking on the items, then adding them one by one from the product page that is displayed you will be asked for the quantity instead of being supplied with it.

6. Now choose to view the basket, and you see that you have the items and quantities you originally saved, even though the test shopping list still shows zero quantities.

7. If you want to see the hidden list quantities without transferring them to the basket, you could always use the phone app, which works somewhat differently, see below. However if using this web-based approach, unless you are someone who can follow procedures exactly every time, I would probably avoid the phone app entirely as much care is required to prevent unwanted interactions with the web app - see 4 below.

8. To maintain a list with quantities, empty the basket and add all list items to it, as above. Make your changes, and then save it again as a list with the same name.

In the mobile app:

1. Create a shopping list, say 'Test2', in the normal way you create one in the phone app. (I would be careful not to use the same name as an existing web list, as I have seen duplicates created, and these may confuse the software). Then, in contrast to the Web application approach (see above), add the shopping list items and quantities to it directly. This will be easier on a tablet than a phone, though I use a phone (well to be exact a phone emulator). Finally create another dummy list - maybe called 'dummy' - with say one item on it.

2. The 'Test2' shopping list you have just created will automatically appear on the web site as a basket, and, in My Favs ~ My Lists as a named shopping list. In the mobile app it will show web site basket quantities if the list is currently linked to a basket (which yours will be at this stage as it has just been created as both a list and a basket). It will not show the hidden web site list quantities unless you unlink it from the basket (though these will be identical initially).

3. Next on using the website empty the basket and before accessing the 'Test2' list in the phone app, navigate to My Favs ~ My Lists ~ Dummy list and using the link below the list choose to 'add all items' to the basket. The quantities on the web list will now be zeroed as these are basket quantities, but note that the quantities on the phone list will be intact. Because you have unlinked the basket from the list these are now the hidden list quantities. NB if, after emptying the basket, you don't use the dummy to switch lists before accessing the phone app, the items and quantities on the phone will be wiped, leaving a blank list, and it will then synch with the web list blanking the web list too, deleting all your hard work. This would appear to be a bug.

4. To use and maintain the 'Test2' list use the web site process in 5. and 8. above. You can maintain it using the phone, but you must be very careful in how you do this to avoid the possibility of blanking the list. Also, if using the list on the web site and using the phone app too, you need to be very careful that edits made for the purposes of an order are not inadvertently applied to the list. To ensure neither of these things happen you must, as above, break the link between the basket and the list you are using or maintaining. You must always do this after you have finished making edits to the list on the phone app, and after emptying or amending any basket created for ordering purposes. (Using the phone app to order via Adsa Tesco etc directly is always possible, but is not what these notes are about).

I'll add to or amend this post if I discover any more tweaks or corrections, but for the moment, please note it is offered as a draft on a best endeavors basis, without guarantees. Happy ordering!

Best wishes

Mouse
